What do Sub-Zero 600 series error codes 05, 06, 07 and 08 mean?
On Sub-Zero 600-3 series built-in refrigerators such as the 650, error codes 05 to 08 are temperature sensor (thermistor) faults. 05 is the refrigerator cabinet sensor, 06 the refrigerator evaporator, 07 the freezer cabinet, and 08 the freezer evaporator. Each means the sensor read open, shorted or erratic. A technician should diagnose it.
What the code means
Sub-Zero's 600-3 Series service manual (serials after M2603255) lists: 05, refrigerator cabinet thermistor; 06, refrigerator evaporator thermistor; 07, freezer cabinet thermistor; 08, freezer evaporator thermistor. Each code means that thermistor read open or shorted for 10+ seconds, or repeatedly read erratic temperatures. Error codes are viewed in Diagnostic Mode, and a flashing SERVICE indicator means the unit had temperature problems. The manual's fixes are checking the thermistor connections to the control board and its resistance, then replacing a defective thermistor.
Safe homeowner checks
- Write down the code and the model and serial numbers.
- Keep the doors closed and check that food is staying cold.
- Do not open panels, test wiring, or replace parts yourself.
When to call a technician
Call a technician to test the thermistor and its wiring to the control board. This is electrical diagnosis and is not a DIY job.
