What does LO C mean on a Sub-Zero refrigerator?
On Sub-Zero Built-In (BI) refrigerators, "LO C" (shown as L0 C) means the control panel is locked. Sub-Zero's manual says it appears when keys are pressed while the door switch reads closed, or when a door was left open more than five minutes. To bypass it, hold the Alarm key, then press either Colder key twice.
What the code means
Sub-Zero's BI Series service manual lists L0 C as "control panel locked": the door switch was detected as depressed (door closed) while control panel keys were pressed, or the door was left open more than five minutes. The display may show LO C with no lights and an inoperative control panel. Once unlocked, the manual's next checks are for a defective door switch or a disconnected or damaged wire between the control board and the door switch.
Safe homeowner checks
- Close all doors fully.
- Bypass the lock as Sub-Zero describes: hold the Alarm key, then press either Colder key twice.
- Check that the panel responds and the temperatures return to normal.
- Do not open panels, test wiring, or replace parts yourself.
When to call a technician
Call a technician if LO C keeps coming back or the panel stays dead. Door switch and control-board wiring checks are technician-only work.
