We’re all looking for that appliance that can really last a long time with us. Appliances are pricey, and if you’re going to spend tons, they'd better last, right? And right now, we’re talking about washing machines! But let’s be honest, to achieve a long-lasting washing machine means that we need to know how to maintain it well enough to actually last a long time.
That’s why Home Alliance is here to present you with tips and tricks to maintain your washing machines!

Replace the water hoses

Regularly inspect hoses for bulging, cracking, fraying, and leaks around the ends. If a problem is discovered, replace the hose immediately, or every three to five years as part of a preventive maintenance program.

Deep Cleaning

When was the last time you deep cleaned your washer? Front-load washers are particularly prone to dirt, and all washers should be cleaned every month or two. Rinse away soap residue and buildup by running an empty load through a store-bought washing machine cleaner or a solution of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda.

Use the recommended detergent

Read the appliance manual to ensure that you use the proper type and amount of detergent for your machine. The important thing to remember is that the detergent you use should not be too harsh or alkaline in nature, as this will harm both the machine and your clothes. So, select the proper washing detergent.

Don't overload the machine

Avoid overloading your machine with water and clothes! Heavy or bulky items should be washed in small loads because they are harder on the appliance.

Leave the door open

Do not close the door of your washing machine immediately after using it. After doing your laundry, wipe down the rubber seal around the door of front-loading washers. This prevents mold and mildew from forming in your washing machine, keeping it smelling fresh. This also properly dries the tub and protects delicate parts from moisture damage.
