This must-have kitchen cleaner isn't only for the dishes. Aside from being that gleaming stainless-steel box in your kitchen that works magic on your dishes, your dishwasher may also be a multi-purpose machine that sanitizes a variety of household objects. Here are a few unusual items that are absolutely safe to clean in your dishwasher.

Plastic toys

Parents with young children will be excited to learn that plastic toys can be cleaned and sanitized in the dishwasher. Of course, it won't work on toys with electronics or batteries. (A dishwasher cycle would almost certainly ruin them.) With regular plastic toys, however, the dishwasher can be used safely and effectively.

Makeup brushes

You may search the internet for hundreds of thousands of manual cleaning tips for your cosmetics brushes and products. However, you're unlikely to find something as simple and convenient as letting the dishwasher handle the cleaning for you! Put your makeup brushes on the top rack to safeguard their integrity (especially if they're on the more costly end of the spectrum).

Sports equipment

Let's face it, sports equipment is one of those important items that may benefit from a little TLC in the dishwasher. You would think that with all the dirt and bacteria on pads, helmets, mouth guards, and hats, they're a lost cause. Fortunately, all you have to do is buy a mesh bag and place it on the top rack to keep everything together. Weekly cleaning can help to eliminate odors and bacteria while also keeping your child's important equipment looking new.

Hair brush or comb

Cleaning your hairbrush is probably a good idea. And your dishwasher is more than capable of handling the job. Simply get rid of as much hair as you can ahead of time. (You don't want it to plug the drain.) Also, put your brush in the dishwasher's top rack. The dust lodged in the crevices of the brush will then be rinsed away by the dishwasher. If your comb is heat-safe, you can also disinfect it by placing it in the utensil holder.

Cleaning supplies

There are many kitchen appliances in your home that can be powerful; all you need to do is do a little research and reading.
